CORPORATE PROFILE

President Cyril Ramaphosa stated on May 29, 2019, that the Agency of Mineral Resources and the Department of Energy would be merged into one department, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE). The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy was established with the goal of becoming a leader in the transformation of South Africa’s economic growth agenda through sustainable mining and energy development.

The DMRE’s approach to service delivery is governed by its value system, which is summarized in the table below:

  • Batho-Pele (Sotho for “People First”) represents a DMRE that prioritizes service delivery, aims for excellence in service delivery, commits to continual service delivery improvement in order to build a better living for all, and aspires to incorporate all residents through services and programs.
