Environmental Officer

the primary goal of the position

An environmental officer makes ensuring that a company complies with environmental rules and guidelines regarding waste management and pollution. The successful incumbent will be responsible for collecting samples of the nearby soil and water for a laboratory’s additional examination. Depending on the pollutant, inspect and test the output of the company’s equipment. Prepare reports of discoveries and be able to communicate the results to other businesses or agencies. You will be expected to provide recommendations as an environmental officer to assist organizations in reducing their environmental impacts through initiatives like recycling or enhancing energy efficiency.

Duties & Responsibilities

Important obligations

Plan, develop, and oversee the Municipality’s Environmental Management and the preservation of the environment in line with any applicable laws and municipal bylaws (NEMA 107 of 1998 as amended)
Coordinate management of sensitive and protected sites with pertinent role-players, stakeholders, and local environmental forums.
Launch environmental management systems, programs, and strategies, and keep an eye on compliance with implementation.
Manage and oversee one’s own sectoral budget. Continual auditing and coordination of the proper environmental procedures, strategies, and programs with the municipal strategic goals.
Manage environmental approval, authorization processes, and applications for human settlement, bulk infrastructure, and other municipal development projects.
Manage and control procedural administrative requirements, record keeping, and reporting deadlines related to the functionality.
Participates in the delivery of awareness and educational programs on environmental management approaches to the community.
Stay up to date with industry developments, legislative changes, new trends, and cutting-edge technologies.
