The Department of Conservation Ecology and Entomology is a forward-thinking, active department that unites a sizable body of teaching and research on the crucial, quickly expanding topic of biodiversity conservation in used landscapes and its environs. In general, our goal is to maintain forestry and agricultural production without jeopardizing the agricultural land mosaic’s natural sustainability. Integrated pest management, the preservation of natural communities, the management of living resources, including wildlife management, ecological restoration, conservation best practices, physiological ecology, and technology transfer are among the areas in which we are particularly skilled.

Duties/Pligte

teaching and learning at the undergraduate and graduate levels within the Department of Conservation Ecology and Entomology;
conducting an active and fruitful research program to give the department the chance to develop a new research emphasis area, and publishing that research in appropriate, peer-reviewed publications;
creating and assessing curriculum, particularly in systems ecology of used landscapes; obtaining and overseeing outside research funding;
monitoring of graduate students;
establishing collaborations and networks between the sector and national and international research;
participation in community engagement initiatives;
involvement in the departmental, faculty, and university levels of administrative service delivery.

Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes

doctorate in ecology, conservation science, or a related field;
a track record of success in an ongoing teaching program focused on the ecology and processes of used landscapes;
a demonstrated capacity for integrating the subjects of general ecology, soil science, plant health, and physiology;
knowledge of multivariate statistics, for example;
peer-reviewed scientific articles appropriate to the level of appointment, notably in the area of systems ecology of used landscapes;
the capacity and expertise to secure outside funds appropriate to level of appointment;
industry-relevant, practical research and engagement experience;
supervision of graduate students appropriate to appointment level;
active participation in projects that promote community connection;
linguistic ability appropriate for a multilingual university;
a driving permit that is current.
