Vision
- The objective of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) is for an African continent that is prosperous, peaceful, democratic, non-racial, non-sexist, and united, and that strives to a just and equitable world.
Mission
- DIRCO’s objective is to plan, coordinate, implement, and administer South Africa’s foreign policy and international relations programs, as well as to promote the African Renaissance and the country’s national interests and values (and create a better world for all).
Priorities for Strategic Planning
- Protect and promote South African national interests and values through bilateral and multilateral contacts.
- South Africa’s international relations are managed and coordinated, and its foreign policy objectives are promoted.
- Monitor worldwide events and provide advice to the government on foreign policy and other domestic issues.
- South Africa’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be safeguarded.
- Contribute to the development of international law and promote adherence to its rules.
- To ensure a rules-based international order, promote multilateralism.
- Maintain a department that is modern, efficient, and committed to quality.
- Provide consular services to South Africans living in other countries.
- Provide a world-class State Protocol service that is uniquely South African.
