University of the North West (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) Division of faculty: P002248 is the Humanities Position Number. Vacancy: Language Practice Lecturer GRADE FOR PEROMNES: A8 Permanent Appointment: Type of Employment
Duties & Responsibilities
- Because of the academic character of the work, the employee will be expected to participate in teaching, learning, research, and community engagement.
- A master’s degree in applied linguistics, language practice, or another pertinent field of linguistics
- two years’ worth of experience in undergraduate teaching and learning
- Experience teaching at a post-secondary level; excellent language and communication skills; proficiency in a South African language (priority will be given to Setswana and Sesotho as the university’s official languages); the capacity to use
- fundamental computer programs and teaching and learning systems (such as an LMS) (such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- The emphasis of a graduate degree or postgraduate research project (honors research essay or master’s degree) must be on language practice (i.e. translation, editing, interpreting, lexicography)
- Excellent interpersonal skills Previous experience in student support (for instance, SI facilitation, tutoring, peer mentoring) Effective time management and organizational abilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Developing study materials and providing students with effective and fast assistance with questions and issues are all important aspects of teaching and learning. Delivering high-quality lectures and support to students is another.
- Research: Complete pertinent postgraduate coursework Deliver research presentations at pertinent research conferences Offer postgraduate supervision and study advice (if needed) Write and publish research articles in reputable journals
- Community Engagement: Membership and/or involvement with pertinent professional organizations Sharing professional experience to benefit the community
The yearly total compensation package shall be in accordance with NWU policy guidelines and consistent with the level of appointment as stated in the job posting.
