Introduction

  • KPA – To assure the plant’s mechanical integrity and conformity with South African laws and regulations.
  • Manage projects and plant improvements, push safety and mechanical team training, and ensure plant availability.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure plant availability in accordance with the requirements.
  • Drive process improvement for the benefit of the company.
  • Ensure plant OHS Act compliance and accept GMR 2.7(a) appointment (potentially GMR 2.1 based on experience).
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental norms and regulations, as well as housekeeping.
  • Oversee maintenance crew training
  • General technical assistance for the facility, as well as driving conformity with engineering norms and requirements
  • Put capital and operational projects into action
  • Incorporate pertinent Engineering disciplines
  • Technician, applicant, and process team training and mentoring
  • Implementation of excellent maintenance practices, such as SOPs/SEPs
  • Failure and process analysis, as well as reporting
  • Overseeing maintenance planning and scheduling, as well as identifying and implementing continuous improvement projects
  • Thorough understanding of steel rolling and related processes, proportional hydraulics, and rotating machinery
  • Fluency in formal business language, as well as good written and verbal communication abilities
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with team members.
  • A suitable applicant will be needed to perform additional duties relating to the role as specified by business requirements.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • BEng / BSc Mechanical Engineering Degree or equivalent (NQF7/8 or 8/10) is the minimum academic qualification.
  • Qualifications as an extra benefit: Factories in the GCC and
  • Pr.Eng is the preferred professional registration.

  • Computer savvy (Word, Excel, MS Projects, PowerPoint)
  • Computerized Maintenance Management System
  • Minimum work experience (years): 3 years following completion of an ECSA-approved candidate engineering program.
  • Preferred work experience (years): 10 years post-qualification experience in the steel or associated heavy industries.
