Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Metallurgy Department is looking for a well-organized, inventive professor to join our established department. The professor’s duties will include research and teaching in extractive metallurgy, particularly hydrometallurgy. While developing course material and curricula, inspiring meaningful discussions, attending conferences, mentoring and consulting with other academics and professionals, supervising graduate and postdoctoral fellows, and being an active member of the university, the role should positively contribute to the industries we serve (participating in committees).

Responsibilities: 

  • While serving the community, perform research, lecturing, and the associated activities of preparation, assessment, moderation, and curriculum development.

Teaching and Learning:

  • Preparation and delivery of lectures (for Extractive Metallurgy courses (Hydrometallurgy, Mineral Processing), tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
    Creating curriculum and course materials that can be used on several platforms.
    Working with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and broaden knowledge.

Academic Leadership and Research:

  • Obtaining money, conducting research, and publishing papers, proposals, journal articles, and books are all part of the process.
    Participating in meetings, committees, conferences, and other events both inside and beyond the institution.
    Participating in institutional training opportunities and activities.

General Academic Administration:

  • Academic surveillance and student records
    Ensure that the ECSA requirements are met.
    Registrations with relevant professional bodies are expected.

Community engagement:

  • Service-learning and
  • Community-based research

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Ph.D. in Metallurgy
  • More than 5 years of experience teaching extractive metallurgy and research in hydrometallurgy

Recommendations:

  • Working experience in hydrometallurgy or similar mineral processing plants
  • An extra benefit of Industrial Chemistry
  • Extensive teaching experience in hydrometallurgy research
  • Within two years, you will have the opportunity to register with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
  • Within two years, there is a chance to be NRF-rated.
  • Reasonable H-Index (>10) and cited research outputs
