Duties & Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
RESEARCH & INNOVATION
  • As needed, conduct and manage industry-directed research initiatives.
  • Staff and students are responsible for quality assurance and management of research outputs.
  • Manage and coordinate research funds and NRF ratings, as well as recommend and lead academic development and capacity building to boost research outputs.
  • Drive and expand international partnerships.
  • Conduct original research and publishing, as well as academic scholarship; support faculty-led research.
TEACHING & LEARNING
  • Courses must be taught as needed.
  • Quality control and management of teaching outcomes
  • Drive and manage the productivity and outcomes of teaching and learning
  • Enable technology and new technologies to improve course offerings Drive and expand international collaboration
  • Organize and participate in student communication and support initiatives.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
  • Participate in community involvement activities

MANAGEMENT

  • Create, initiate, and push research proposals for outside financing.
    Embark on autonomous, inventive activities to get money, facilities, and/or equipment to support research output. Collaborate and develop effective connections for successful model delivery.

The yearly total salary package will be appropriate for the advertised level of appointment and in accordance with NWU policy requirements.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Doctor of Philosophy in Astrophysics/Astronomy/Material Physics/Space Physics 5 years of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning experience 5 years of post-graduate supervision and instruction 5 years of active research experience
KEY FUNCTIONAL/TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
  • Proven track record of postgraduate student supervision Proven track record of successfully applying for research funding Leadership and outreach (Community engagement) competence Demonstrable theoretical/modeling/experimental physics expertise Radio / Optical / Gamma-ray Astronomy, Cosmic-ray Physics, / Space Physics, Material Sciences for Space Applications
