Duties & Responsibilities
- Applications include general applicant and student inquiries (KZN CAO and UKZN Applications Office) (UKZN General Enquiries Offices).
- Admission and registration of more than 45 000 undergraduate and graduate students.
- School Records (both current and archived).
- Academic policies and college handbooks.
- Exams, scheduling, and venue reservations.
- Graduation.
- coordination of the student system, and creation and control of regulatory paperwork.
- Internally, Student Services, the Student Representative Council (SRCE and CRCs), Information & Communication Services (ICS), and Institutional Intelligence; College Directors of Professional Services, Managers of College Academic Services, and
- School Operations Managers; Corporate Relations Division (CRD); Student Services and the Student Representative Council (SRCE and CRCs); and (II).
- Externally, with the Department of Basic Education (DBE), the Central Applications Clearing House (CACH), the KZN Central Applications Office (CAO), the Department of Higher Education (DHET), and Universities South Africa (USAF), Professional Bodies, and other service providers.
- Additionally, the incumbent is a member of other university committees, such as the Executive and Leadership Forum (ELF), the Academic Exclusion Appeal Committee (AECOM), Senate, and various Senate committees, and is required to participate actively in each of these groups.
The job demands the ability to motivate and oversee a sizable, varied staff. Additionally, the incumbent will be required to work independently and with great attention to detail, all while juggling tight deadlines and other regulatory obligations. Additionally necessary are outstanding organizational and logistical skills, as well as highly developed problem-solving and decision-making abilities, as well as the capacity to organize and analyze information.
Within the division, the Director also serves as the budget controller.
The incumbent will have to travel between campuses and may occasionally be asked to work with other members of the Executive to complete ad hoc assignments or duties at the Registrar’s request.
Desired Experience & Qualification
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- An appropriate Master’s Degree.
- eight years of pertinent experience in the field of university academic administration, including
- a minimum of five (5) years in a position of like responsibility at the senior managerial level (including line management and budgetary control), where independent judgment and initiative were demanded in operational and/or project management
