- Occupational health and safety is a focus area for the Finance and Facilities Department of North-West University in Potchefstroom. SOCIAL WORKER ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST NO. OF THE POSITION: N001232 AVAILABILITY: 1 PEROMNES, GRADE: 8, TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: PERMANENT OBJECTIVE OF THE POSITION: To supervise and coordinate the Northwest University’s environmental performance, compliance, and management (NWU). To create, execute, and track environmental strategies, policies, and programs (systems) that support NWU compliance and sustainable development.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To ensure sustainable development and compliance, create and implement environmental management systems and action plans.
- Environmental compliance is necessary to meet business and legal obligations as well as the NWU’s goals and objectives.
- Whenever necessary, compile environmental audit reports.
- As needed, compile environmental impact evaluations.
- ongoing environmental effect detection and evaluation.
- Conduct regular audits to make sure environmental regulations are being followed.
- Verify and keep an eye on whether environmental management standards are being followed, such as those set forth in approved environmental authorizations and environmental management programs.
Environmental Training and awareness programs:
- In collaboration with the coordinator for OHS/SHE:
- Promote and increase understanding of the effects of new environmental elements and repercussions throughout the NWU.
teach all levels of employees and students about environmental responsibilities and issues. - Participate in the creation of training in environmental education.
Environmental Reporting: Compile reports and maintain data:
- gather and preserve the data needed for environmental reporting.
- control the methods for sampling and garbage collecting.
- Information for monitoring water and air quality reporting.
- Make sure that the various environmental reports are accurately submitted to the appropriate statutory and regulatory organizations.
- Writing and compiling environmental reports for various NWU Management gatherings and structures is the major job.
Environmental Incident Management
- Environmental incidents should be documented, looked into, and reported on as necessary both internally and externally.
Desired Experience & Qualification
- It is necessary to have a Bachelor of Sciences (BSc Degree) at NQF Level 7 with a concentration in Environmental Sciences or Environmental Management.
- It is necessary to have a Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 5) in Management.
- It would be ideal to join SACNASP, IAIA, or SAATCA.
- Experience in environmental management for five years is required.
- Experience managing and developing environmental systems for five years is required.
- Experience with integrated SHE systems and environmental management systems implementation and administration
a thorough understanding of environmental law a working grasp of impact assessments and their techniques, as well as how to use them to analyze hazards - Computer proficiency: Excellent writing, communication, and reporting skills in MS Office
- Create SHE budgets and cost projections.
- Excellent time management and resource allocation abilities
- Both team captain and team member (positive social and interpersonal skills)
