UNISA Academic Points Score (APS) 2023-2024

The University of South Africa (UNISA) Academic Points Score (APS) is a method for determining the minimum requirements for undergraduate admission to UNISA’s degree programs. As a means of standardizing university admission requirements in South Africa, this system was implemented in 2008.

The candidate’s performance in six specific subjects, four of which are required and two of which are optional, is taken into account by the APS system. The four mandatory subjects are:

5 for achieving 60-69%
4 for achieving 50-59%
3 for achieving 40-49%
2 for achieving 30-39%
1 for achieving 0-29%

The sum of the candidate’s six subject scores is used to determine their APS score. For instance, suppose a student gets the following scores:

English Home Language – 5 points
Mathematics – 6 points
Life Orientation – 7 points
Physical Science – 5 points
History – 6 points
Accounting – 5 points

Their APS score would be 34 (5+6+7+5+6+5).

The minimum APS score needed to get into a UNISA undergraduate program varies from degree program to degree program and from program to program. In most cases, a 21 APS score is the minimum required for admission to a degree program. However, the minimum APS score needed for more competitive programs like medicine and law is significantly higher.

It is essential to keep in mind that UNISA’s admissions process takes into account more than just the APS score. Other considerations may include the candidate’s academic record, work experience, and extracurricular activities.
