  • Close to one-third of all South African students enrolled in higher education attend Unisa, which is acknowledged as the world’s oldest university dedicated to remote learning.
  • The most significant decision you will need to make as an undergraduate student at university is the course and degree you wish to pursue. There are several possibilities available to you at Unisa.


The College of Economic and Management Sciences (CEMS) and the College of Science, Engineering, and Technology are the two colleges where the Department of Decision Sciences provides courses (CSET). The levels of the courses are as follows:

  • Undergraduate (three years full time, 4-6 years part time)
  • Honours (one year full time, 2-4 years part time)
  • Master’s (two years full time, 2-4 years part time)
  • Doctoral (two years full time, 3-6 years part time)

The following undergraduate degrees allow students to major in Decision Sciences modules (such as Quantitative Management or Operations Research).

Master’s (M) and doctoral (D) qualifications

  • Master of Commerce (MCom) in Quantitative Management (98701)
  • Master of Science (MSc) in Operations Research (98597)
  • Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Operations Research (98598)

Through the Unisa online portal, prospective students can apply for admission to MSc/MCom or PhD programs. All pertinent and required papers should be attached. We now accept M and D students outside of the typical Unisa registration windows as of June 2015. Students who are accepted must successfully submit a research proposal in order to advance to the dissertation or thesis portion.
